Well, I needed this book for my English 101 class. This is the exact book required. Problem is, it's based on MLA 7th edition. MLA 8th edition came out in April 2016 and this book came out in 2015. The other book we're using uses MLA 8th edition. Things were very confusing for me since one book said do a citation this way while the other said do it that way. Finally figured out why.Why the college is making us use books based on two different MLA editions, I don't know. Just be careful that if this specific book (copyright 2015) is required, it uses some outdated MLA styles. I don't know how much of the book that affects but I was getting really frustrated since the two books said different things.The book came quick and is in good enough condition for me. So that was good.
I am horribly disappointed with the quality of product I received from tregus_depott_Initially I only found the wrinkled up pages that had been printed on, but I could still make out the info, and could not afford to be without the book for class, so I just dealt with it.Then I started finding groups of pages that were never separated by the publisher. Again, I could fix it by cutting the pages myself and could not be without the book, so I dealt with it.Finally, when taking a reading comprehension test in my college english course I found the 30 page section that was not even in the book. I wound up failing the test with nothing to read from, and am stuck with a book I cannot return.I suspect that factory reject copies are being sold as new hoping that the customers will not notice until it is too late to get a refund or a book that was actually printed in its entirety.As I do not know who is at fault here I can only recommend that people avoid anything from the seller tregus_depott_ as well as anything from Bedford/St. Martin's publishing. It simply is not worth risking your grade.
If you're buying this, it's probably for a class, and I apologize.I too bought this for a class, and it's actually a pretty good book. Not worth the price, but no college textbooks are. But anyways, there are lots of stories which deal with contemporary issues, and it's all really modern (I was surprised to read a page talking about Obama, I guess I was used to outdated books which still listed Bush as president) and it's a mix of classic literature (such as The Lottery) with modern issues (such as the debate of whether or not football is too dangerous for kids). It also has chapters about things like narrative writing, persuasive writing.I don't think anyone would crack open this book more than once, but it's not a read that will put you to sleep. It'll keep you entertained for a while.
I purchased the Patterns for College Writing by Laurie Kirszner to use in my high school classroom for dual credit students. This edition has several major changes from the last edition. Overall, I enjoy using this book and have found it to be helpful.
I just received this book today, and I have mixed feelings about the state the book is in. When a book is described as “good†quality, I expect some slight damage here and there. A few tears, folds, scribbling, etc would have been fine by me since I’m not buying a brand new book; however, the cover and a huge chunk of pages after the cover have been damaged by some sort of spill?? It’s not that big of a deal, but it’s still gross to me since I don’t know what kind of liquid was spilled on it. Also one of the corners was ripped off of the back cover. Most of the pages are still decent, though, so I’m not that disappointed by the quality.
As far as rentals go, this one is in pretty decent shape. I wasn't expecting the cover to be torn, though, and I'm a little worried that it'll get worse from use by the end of the semester.
Very useful book. I bought this for my English class and it has turned out to be very useful outside of class also. The book is in good condidtion and I bought a used copy. I am how ever diassapointed as it is not the latest version as is shown in picture. It was suppose to have the 2016 Mia update but I got an older version of the book.if not for this I would have given 5 stars.
This book was helpful in explaining basic college themes. I originally purchased the book for a first year college English course, and the material was very relevant and current.
