It's amazing how many matches are won or lost on sports psychology, and yet after losing a match because of nerves or some related issue, players go and practice the shots they missed when they were nervous rather than address the reason they missed the shots with a dose of sports psychology."Have you ever stopped to consider how elite table tennis players deal with the pressure of competition and consistently perform at their best?" That's the opening line. It's 158 pages with lots of useful content. It covers sports psychology specifically for table tennis better than anything else I've read, since most other books are more general, for all sports. It does so not just with theory, but with practical steps to improve your mental game and thereby your overall game.I reviewed an earlier and shorter version of this book, "Get Your Game Face On." This version is greatly expanded, both the text and the title. If you are serious about your table tennis, I strongly encourage you to read this book, and try out the various methods explained for strengthening your mental game. It could pay off dramatically in your performance.In Part 1, the book covers the Game Face System, going over both the routine and how to train for it. It points out four major problems that plague table tennis players, and then goes about giving systematic ways of combating them:-Inconsistency-Not being able to play as well as we practice-Your energy level can be too high or too low-DistractionsCentral to the book is developing a "Game Face," the inseparable relationship between emotional, mental, and physical (the "Game Face Performance Triangle"), and a "Game Face Routine," using the four R's, which are covered in Part 2:-Reaction ("If you want to maintain your Game Face during competition, you must learn to control your reaction consistently right after every point.")-Recover (Recover from the point, relax, etc., with eight methods listed)-Readiness (This is where you ensure that you are mentally prepared for the action to resume. You ask yourself, "What is the situation? What is my job?" This is where you do your tactical thinking.)-Ritual (To prepare mentally for the next point)Throughout the book there are numerous real-world examples from world-class players. Often I was nodding my head at mental tricks that match what I'd developed over the years, or at recognizing something I'd see others do. The specific breakdown of how you use the time between points - the four R's - especially led to much thought that will influence my own coaching. The book should be a must for table tennis coaches and serious players.The book then goes on to cover four major problems players face in competition, with a section devoted to each, and how to recover from them: Anger, Nerves, Mistakes, and Distractions. While the Four R's are likely the most important part of the book long-term, these four sections are probably of great value short term for players trying to address these issues right now. (But the Four R's will give a longer-term fix, especially in combination with this section.)Part 3 covers a wide variety of issues under the general topic of Develop Your Healthy Lifestyle Choices. After more about the Game Face Performance Triangle (Emotional-Physical-Mental), it covers 14 specific topics under three categories. Under Physiological, it has Nutrition, Hydration, and Sleep. About the Author

Like most compulsive controllers, Danny was always driven to succeed. He graduated from UCLA with honors in business administration and finished in the top 5 percent of his class at the UCLA School of Law.  While still in his twenties, he became a popular real estate instructor in the UCLA extension program, and in his thirties he wrote a critically acclaimed, best-selling professional book, How to Invest in Real Estate Syndicates (DowJones-Irwin, 1978).  Financial success came early to Danny. Celebrities and other wealthy people entrusted him withlarge sums to invest on their behalf. By his midthirties he could afford to live in the exclusive Old Bel Air section of Los Angeles.  But for all his achievements and success, Danny had no sense of inner peace and serenity. He was imprisoned by his fears, anger, and anxieties--all bedfellows of controllers--and thus not open to the joy and wonders all around him.  After suffering aseries of traumatic events and financial setbacks that he could not control--no matter how hard he tried--he finally began a new life journey based on letting go of control and accepting people and things as they are. I’m halfway through the book...have never paused to write a review...but felt like I wanted to advocate for anyone considering investing in this book. The invitation to “accept what is” has already brought me bits of relief, hope, peace, and good cheer.I can now understand how “acceptance” will help me confront why I CANNOT accept, and then move toward healing my own woundedness. (my journaling has become more gentle, loving toward myself and others, healing, real.) Somehow this is taking place in a really gentle way. This is not a book that’s going to make you feel like it’s attacking you. It’s an invitation to love, joy, peace, freedom.The author’s stories and others’ keep it real. We are not alone!We do need to pause and grieve in life. Sometimes for awhile as grief has it’s important way with us. But “acceptance” can help us LIVE into our lives when we are ready. I was ready, and have been blessed by this book’s helpful coaching already.

I have already recommended this book to several friends and clients. It's terrific, and timely too, especially with all that is going on in the world.. The true life stories of ACCEPTANCE that the author shares are gut wrenching and heart warning both. Miller's book challenges us to let go of control, to move out of victimhood into victory by mindfully accepting what is and what isn't. The book is full of 'hope and possibility' and specific steps and practices on how to live a more peaceful, meaningful and joy filled life. I love the book, and would give it more than five stars if I could!

My appreciation of Daniel Miller’s book only dawned on me months after I read it. We are all dealing with some events, people and situations over which we have no control. The book reinforced the idea that, at times, I too need to keep my strong opinions in check and must also accept decisions and outcomes with which I do not totally agree. Most books quickly fade in memory and are replaced by ever changing events, but Daniel’s book on acceptance is often relevant to daily situations. I would have preferred the message of chapter three to be emphasized in chapter one.

About the Author

Seth is a Canadian cartoonist who has been producing comic art for over twenty years. His books include Its a Good Life, If You Don’t Weaken; Wimbledon Green; George Sprott, and his ongoing series, Palookaville. Apart from comics, he is the illustrator for Lemony Snicket's All the Wrong Questions series. He is the designer for several classic comics reprint series, notably collections of work by Charles Schulz, John Stanley, and Doug Wright. Seth has exhibited throughout the world in a variety of group and solo shows, including a touring show of his model city of Dominion. From his home in Guelph, Ontario, he does illustrations for numerous magazines, including The New Yorker.Luc Chamberland is a Montreal-based animator and director. After graduating from Concordia University, Luc embarked on a nomadic career that eventually landed him in London, where he created animation for several feature films, including Steven Spielberg's We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story. He was also director of animation on the Dreamworks feature Joseph: King of Dreams. Seth's Dominion is the first film that Luc has directed and animated for the NFB.

I'm an avid skeeball fan and have a special place in my heart for miniatures. I really wanted to love this and patiently waited 6 months for its release. While it is cute and looks great on my desktop it could have bee made a little better. It needs a ball return which could have been easily built into the mold and the stickers, while fun to apply should have been painted on. It's not really worth $10.

A fun toy. Everyone at work enjoys this little game. Sometime we place it in a low cut box so the balls don't fly off on the ground :)

A great addition for someone who keeps coming back to play. Though it is really kind of small and putting stickers on the rings can be quite difficult. Plus these 1/4" diameter ball bearings can get easily lost if you're not careful and may end up in children's mouths, hence the warning label on the box. The little book does tell the history of the game and how you play it.I bought it because I haven't played the game in a long time!

I purchased this product as a stocking stuffer for my 7 year old, because he loves to play skee-ball! It definitely is small, and a little hard at first to get the hang of. But for the price and just for a little extra bit of fun for any skee-ball fan, it still brings a smile to your face! It something he can take anywhere, (just as long as it’s not too hard to find the tiny metal balls!) and it keeps him entertained!

My Sister is stuck behind a desk all day and seemed to enjoy this cute lil Skee-Ball set. Not sure it was worth the near $7 I paid, but I’d buy again if needed at $5 or less.

This might have been cute and worth the money had it actually arrived with all of the pieces intact. The ball bearings/balls weren’t included in the package.

I was excited to get this when I ordered it. When it came, I opened it and started playing with it. About five minutes later, I had lost one of the tiny marbles/skeeballs. I also don’t know how you could roll something smaller than your fingernail, as it said in the instructions to roll the ball. I tried flicking it, and that’s how I lost one of them. Disappointed.
