This book was recommended to me as a family member was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's and the adult children were in need of advice. I read the book overnight and then gave it to one of them to read..which she did overnight as well. It was then passed to others in the family and all of us agree...it is VERY good. Ironically, of the 5 folks involved in the decision making, all of us had attended the University where Professor James is located. I have since ordered another to keep in my personal library as a general guide for aging if not just for this terrible disease.
This is a great book. It is an easy read and I read it in one night. I then gave it to my staff members and asked them to read it. They tell me they are so happy to have something like that...It helps them understand better what functions I perform as an Elder Law Attorney. I am planning on purchasing another copy to put in my local library. That way I can tell my clients to check the book out of the library if they want to read it. As we know, not all clients want that much information, but the book will be there for those who want to know more. Thanks.
My mother is late stage Alzheimer's. This book gave very accurate descriptions of the stages of the disease. I wish our family had made legal arrangements described in the book sooner. Unfortunately, a car accident accelerated mom's progression. It is so easy to think you have more time!
My caregivers who come to my support group have asked to read this book as it seems to be something that will help them. That is the main reason I bought it as I try to do everything I can to help those who are walking in my shoes!
