About the Author
Claudia Friedlander is a voice teacher and fitness expert based in New York City. She has presented workshops on vocal fitness for The Voice Foundation and the Performing Arts Medicine Association, and was an invited panel discussant on health and wellness for OPERA America. Her students have performed on Broadway, and at leading opera houses including The Santa Fe Opera and the Metropolitan Opera. She is the author of the monthly column “Musings on Mechanics” for Classical Singer Magazine as well as a widely read and cited blog on vocal technique and fitness, The Liberated Voice. In 2008, she joined the faculty of the Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall, where her most recent project was the development, in collaboration with Joyce DiDonato, of The Singer’s Audition Handbook, an interactive online career development guide for young singers.

Wonderful responsible integrated approach to the physical, mental, and yes, even some not to the spiritual work and art of singing! Claudia Friedlander explains the anatomical mechanics of singing cleanly in the context of the whole person. I also really appreciate her understanding and application of working on body balance as it applies to singing and the work of being a artist and artisan of live performance. Have recommended already to friends and colleagues who sing and teach singers and actors.
I love the diagrams, first of all! Somehow the anatomy lessons in this book are easier for me to receive than in a traditional biology book, maybe because it directly applies them to singing? Anyway, I've just started teaching voice and this book is invaluable! The work-out options are also dope, but I'm only just scratching the surface of them.

This book is a great resource for singers of all styles. I’m a pop singer, and the chapter on laryngeal anatomy is really helping me to even out my vocal registers and expand my range upwards!
I bought this book because I have found Dr Friedlander's Toutube channel so useful. Indeed, the anatomy illustrations are very clear and her explanation of how the vocal apparatus works is extremely comprehensive, although not entirely comprehensible at the first reading. This will be a reference work for me and I expect to return to it often. It is too early to say whether the exercises are helpful but they are a valuable part of the book. I am more sceptical about the dietary advice which is based on the standard dietary recommendations.
